About Online Exhibition
‘I think a great portrait has to do with the way it is approached… it is to do with the feeling of individuality, and the intensity of the regard and the focus on the specific.’ Lucian Freud
People find portraits fascinating: they not only tell us something about the subject, but can also tell us how that subject wanted to be depicted, or how the artist wanted to depict them. Many people are fascinated by self portraiture, in particular, as a way to gain insight into the psyches of artists throughout history. Self-portraits can tell us something about the internal life of the artists.
We are delighted to share with you a collection of portraits by various artists which reveal how this ancient tradition remains vital.
