Additional charcoal sketch and inscription on verso 'No 53 Atelier Boldini' with Dovane Centrale stamp MEDIUM: Watercolour on paper This watercolour is typical of his tendency to depict - with fast impulsive brushstrokes - aristocratic sitters. Here, Boldini has chosen to use a subdued colour palette with infuses the work with modernity. The soft colours fill the work with femininity and intimacy while the sweeping lines of her form give a real sense of movement. It appears that Boldini has captured his sitter in a fleeting moment as she glides around Paris' boulevards.
DIMENSIONS: (unframed) 36.00 x 32.00 ins 91.44 x 81.28 cms SIGNATURE: Signed MEDIUM: Oil on canvas Virgilio Costantini was an Italian artist known for his Impressionistic painting. Colour and light command Costantini’s works, and this piece is by no means an exception. Here we see how Costantini has captured the brilliant blue hues of Lake Geneva, which contrast perfectly with the bright white feathers of the swans in the foreground. The white of the swans is echoed in the snow topped mountains and clouds to the rear of the scene, adding a sense of harmony and balance to the composition. Costantini uses symmetry to emphasise this harmony, not only in the lake’s reflection, but also in the family of swans.
