Van Bloeman was nicknamed Orizonte or Horizonti, on account of the distance he painted in his classical landscapes. He was greatly inspired by Gaspar Poussin where he gained his ideas of colour, technique and composition. His works were regarded highly by his contemporaries and the travellers to Rome during the first half of the 18th Century were always seeking to purchase his works.
