Hilda Clements Hassell was a truly talented artist who lived in London for some of her life and was a member of the New English Arts Club she also exhibited at the Salon des Independants in Paris in 1911. It is recorded that she painted in St. Ives at the beginning of the twentieth century. From viewing her paintings we also know she travelled widely particularly to Spain and the Cap d’Antibes in France and painted in a vibrant post-impressionist style with vivid colours handling impasto with strong and confident brush strokes.
