Frederick Gore CBE RA studied drawing and painting at the Ruskin School of Fine Art as a student at Trinity College, Oxford. He later studied at the Slade School of Fine Art, followed by his travels around Europe. It was in France that he became interested in Fauvism, adopting some techniques while remaining distinct from the movement. Between 1951 and 1979, Gore was the Head of Painting at Saint Martin’s School of Art, where his students found him particularly encouraging. Gore was made a CBE in 1987 for his contributions to art.
