A P Sargent has managed to turn the flat, smooth, reflective properties of glass on their head with this tactile, impasto-style painting. The edges of the composition are thickly coated and crumbly, rough edges defy the usual sharp finish of glass. The artist has created a textural, vibrant plane through layer upon layer of colour streaking across the composition. The artist has built  variations of yellow and orange over darker, murky tones which he reveals in part through thin, shallow slices through the top layer. The title of the work and this technique establish the impression of branches, while the work as a whole looks something like the moss-blanketed bark of a tree’s trunk.
