Biography

Gustave Cariot was a French painter, born in the Marais district of Paris in 1872 and who was known for his individual post-impressionist style.  As a child, Cariot showed natural artistic talent and was determined to purse his art career, defying his father’s expectations. Cariot began to exhibit at major Parisian exhibitions after joining the Societe des Artistes Independants, including the Salon Nationale des Beaux Arts, the Salon D’Hiver and the Salon D’Automne. Known for his landscapes, Cariot’s paintings exemplify his unique use of vivid colours to portray light.
