View of Santa Maria della Salute from the Piazza San Marco
P.O.A.
Out Of Stock
This beautiful painting is a testament to the vedute genre. On the right hand side is the Doge’s Palace, the political epicentre of Venice, with Venice oldest café, Café Florian, just glimpsed in the centre of the composition. In the distance the Santa Maria della Salute can be seen, its dome resplendent in the sunshine.
The dome of the Salute was an important addition to the Venice skyline and soon became emblematic of the city, inspiring artists like Canaletto, J. M. W. Turner, John Singer Sargent, and Francesco Guardi.

Biography
Austrian painter Marco Grubacs is known for his evocative portrayals of Venice, continuing the great tradition established by 18th century artists such as Canaletto (1697-1768) and Guardi (1712-1793). Grubacs’ consummate draughtsmanship, a skill that he developed very early in life, lends an air of architectural accuracy to his paintings. He was able to represent the city in all its moods, from romantic moonlight to bright sunshine. His name sometimes appears as Marco Grubas.
