Kato’s mesmerising paintings are filled with sharp edged spindle-shapes that appear ready to slice open the air that surrounds them. Each of these shapes appears to be moving, creating a sense of speed and tension within the picture. The way the shapes interlock and overlap one another gives them a very sleek almost natural appearance, despite their bright, otherworldly colours. This creates a sense of euphoria for the viewer, as if they are floating in a boundless space, completely freed from our Earthly bindings.
