Two Sides of the same story is from a highly popular series which explore the concepts of relationship and compromise. The picture’s surface is constructed from layered paint, sometimes more than thirty layers deep, in an array of extremely bold and stimulating colours. Through his paintings, Salcedo explores emotional and existential concepts, rather than figurative subject matter. He hopes paintings such as this one will give the viewer an internal experience.
