In this painting Vallin depicts the scenic views of the Venice location. He presents a story of the early morning in Italy. Boats lined up beside each other in front of the entrances to the buildings behind. as people walk down the narrow pavement, rowers start to push there boats away from the bays. as the people emerge from the shadows cast by the walls, the sun rises. Vallin mirrors this through the pink clouds within the bright blue sky.

Robert Vallin was a popular and highly skilled painter of Venetian and Parisian scenes in the late 19th and early 20th Century.
