Penguins depicts a group of Magellanic Penguins, a species characterised by the presence of a broad crescent of white feathers extending from just above each eye to the chin, a horseshoe-shaped band of black feathers which cuts across the white feathers on the penguins chest, and a small area of pink flesh on its face. The Magellanic penguin is usually found on the Falkland Islands and nearshore islands along the Pacific and Atlantic coasts of southern America, however, some have reached as far as Peru, Brazil, Australia, New Zealand and the Antarctic Peninsula.

Berriman is a self-taught artist living and working in his home town of Macclesfield, Cheshire in the North West of England. A lifelong animal lover, Tony has travelled extensively through the forests of India and South East Asia, trekked across much of South America, and worked for a conservation organisation called Greenforce in Zambia Africa. He takes the inspiration for most of his work from the wildlife he has encountered both at home in the UK and abroad.

Tony Berriman also paints portraits, both human and animal, landscapes, seascapes and vibrant skies. He works in a realist style, mostly oil on canvases in a range of sizes.
