Valfort’s evidently classical training comes through here in this delicately technical standing portrait of a man in traditional dress. To be able to attain such a level of detail using chalk, such a soft material, requires quite some skill and patience. There is a clear sense of light direction and strong shadows emphasise the ripples of this man’s clothes.
