Houghton has a longstanding commitment to the countryside, having grown up there and a vast interest in nature, which represents his studio work depicting his particular interest in birds from his time spent in Africa. The nature of the materials involved in a painting mean that on occasion some pieces are susceptible to movement and the effects of natural ageing. We are able to provide advice on practical measures to conserve the original condition of a piece and have relationships with restorers and framers to offer you a range of services to meet your needs.

After achieving a bachelor’s degree in law from Exeter, Houghton went on to begin his studies in art in 1998 at The Slade School of Art for a summer course and then moved to France in 1999 to attend the University of Aix Marseille to study Fine Arts but without completing as he accepted a job in Cape Town. He spent a number of years in South Africa as head of the art department at the International School of Cape Town. On return to London he started to paint professionally full-time around 2005 and as his career developed began to receive many prestigious commissions that invited him to detail the life of many high-profile communities, such as being the official artist for London Fashion Week in 2008 and for the 2012 Olympics and Paralympics. He was also selected as the artist in residence for the H.M. The Queen and H.RH The Prince of Wales, as well as at Highgrove in 2013 and then during 2015 he received another Royal appointment by becoming artist in residence at the Windsor Castle estate. Following this he went on to receive a masters in Fine Art in 2017 at the University of Gloucestershire and additionally was the artist in residence for the Wimbledon championships in 2018.
