Banksy is an anonymous graffiti artist, political activist and film director, based in England. His satirical street art and subversive epigrams combine dark humour with graffiti, which is executed in a distinctive stencilling technique. His works of political and social commentary have been featured on streets, walls, and bridges of cities throughout the world. Banksy’s work grew out of the Bristol’s ‘underground scene,’ which involved collaborations between artists and musicians.

Banksy says that he was inspired by ‘3D’, a graffiti artist who later became a founding member of the English musical group Massive Attack. Banksy is now officially recognised as a British icon, along with Queen Elizabeth II and David Beckham. There is still speculation over who Banksy really is, and theories include that he is a member of the band Massive Attack, or that ‘Banksy’ is in fact a group of artists.

Banksy’s official prints are an ever more popular collectors’ items, and prices for his work continue to climb.
