Astor Milan Salcedo was born 1969 in Madrid, Spain, as a child of Colombian parents. From early childhood on his journalistic surrounding influenced him.
After a successful career as a fashion/ portrait photographer he expanded his field of work into moving pictures. In 2009 he won the highest television award in Germany “Deutscher Fernsehpreis” for his work on the documentary “Die Bombe”.
Driven by his yearlong passion for art and the art world it became his work focus in 2012.
Astor’s great variety and depth of experience taught him many techniques which free him to express his inner feelings via diverse methods. By applying multiple layers with a variety of tools such as brushes, squeegees, different spatulas – and even by hand – Astor invites observers to dive into a multitude of colours and to explore endless forms and shapes on canvas, paper and with photography.
His insatiable curiosity for politics, society and the arts are the sources of his creations. Astor’s two foremost topics are – the imperative balance between mankind and nature (a vital aspect in our everyday lives) – and our constant emotional struggle to reach personal happiness which is eminent but differing in every culture and society.
Embracing his positive approach to life, his abstracts are lush in colour and invigorating for both mind and soul.
Prior to making art his focus in 2012, Astor began his career as a model which fired his curiosity for photography, leading to a successful career in his field. His works were published amongst others in “Vogue” and “Spex”.
In 2004, he opened “MEDIATURNS” where he worked as creative director and director for lifestyle brands commercials for “Hugo Boss”, “Gucci”, “Tommy Hilfiger”, “Swarowski” and “L’Oreal”.
Astor’s artwork is directly inspired and influenced by his experiences in his fashion world both through his photographic perspective and creative aspect.
