Heavily influenced by the work of the Impressionists, Pratt uses swirling brushstrokes and vivid colours to capture the movement of this en plein scene. We can see chickens gather on a brick wall shrouded by the surrounding trees leaves, light and blue skies shining through the gaps as the animals bask in the sunbeams.

British artist Jeffrey Pratt is well known for his impressionist style paintings. Pratt is loyal to practicing en plein air, painting outside in nature. There is an honesty to his work being constructed the way it is around him. Largely inspired by being able to work alongside nature to capture a scene, he has stated in an interview with white wall galleries “I enjoy the thought that people trust my eyes, that they can sense the inherent truth and can be confident that I have identified each and every brush stroke to paint a faithful précis of all those subtle hues and tones that my eye can identify, but only in that very moment, on that day, in that hour, as that particular cloud is speeding by…here, now, real.”

Pratt’s unique style and use of vivid colours are instantly recognisable, and sought after by a number of collectors, including celebrity chef Rick Stein. His paintings have been exhibited in a number of prestigious galleries and exhibitions globally, including a solo exhibition at Lloyds of London.

Heavily influenced by the work of the Impressionists, Pratt uses swirling brushstrokes and vivid colours to capture his environment including this scene of a church and tree-lined river. Each vibrant landscape is characterised by a vast clarity of colour and extreme technical depth, distinguishing the British painter as a true colourist and Renaissance man that he is today. Even though Pratt’s style is rooted in the 21st century; the traditional paths he chooses, accompanied by his dedication to art history and heritage presenting each piece in a finely handmade frame, is just another example of the heavy impressionist influence.
