This peaceful painting by the most highly regarded maritime artist of the present day, John Steven Dews, depicts an American sailboat in the Artic surrounded by cliffs of ice.
Painted in the realist style, Dews’ ability to capture the movement of the ocean and the ice is fully realised in this beautiful painting. The contrasting of the crisp white of the iceberg against the deep blue water reflects Dews’ attention to detail.
This beautiful oil on canvas was previously owned by Silicon Valley Venture Capitalist Thomas J. Perkins. He was a great collector of John Steven Dews works and even commissioned the artist to paint several of his boats in action. It is a testament to the quality of this work that he retained it until his death in 2016.
